1.0 OBJECTIVE
To provide a general guideline for operation, cleaning and calibration of volumeter.
2.0 SCOPE
This SOP is applicable for operatio, cleaning and calibration of volumeter, Model No. EV 2 (Instrument ID.: QC/284).
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Operating personnel is responsible for carrying out the procedure.
3.2 Overall responsibility for training, implementation and follow-up with the QC Manager or his / her nominee.
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY
4.1 Head of Quality.
5.0 PRECAUTIONS
5.1 After every use clean the surface of the instrument using a soft brash.
6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Bulk density measurement
6.1.1 Weigh the empty sample receiving cup.
6.1.2 After the apparatus is setup, allow excess powder to flow through the apparatus into the sample receiving cup till it overflow using a minimum of 25cm3 (for cubic cup) or 35 cm3 for cylindrical cup of powder.
6.1.3 Scrape excess powder by pressing the level of the spatula assembly.
6.1.4 Determine the weight of the powder.
6.1.5 Repeat the procedure twice for different powder samples.
6.1.6 Calculate the bulk density, in g/ml, using the formula
Bulk Density = Weight/Volume,
Where, volume (for square cup) = 16.39 mm3and
Volume (for cylindrical cup) = 25.00 mm3
6.1.7 Record the average of the three determinations.
6.1.8 Record the measurement in the specific logbook (As per Annexure-I, FRM No.: FQC/860).
6.2 Calibration
6.2.1 Sample receiving cup
6.2.1.1 Take a calibrated vernier caliper.
6.2.1.2 Measure inside dimensions (length, width and height for square cup) and (radius and length for cylindrical cup).
6.2.1.3 Measure inside volume by the following equations.
Volume for square cup = Length x Width x Height
Volume of the Cylindrical cup = πr2L
Here,
π = Constant = 22/7
r = radius of the cylinder
L = Length of the cylinder.
6.2.1.4 Acceptance criteria: Volume of square cup = 16.39 mm3 ± 0.05 mm3 Volume of Cylindrical cup = 25.00 mm3 ± 0.03 mm3
6.2.2 Mesh size
6.2.2.1 Measure mesh diameter with a calibrated vernier caliper at least three different positions of the mesh placed below the powder funnel.
6.2.2.2 Make average of three determinations.
6.2.2.3 Acceptance Criteria: 1.00 mm ± 0.01 mm
6.2.3 Report all the results of calibration in the Annexure-II (FRM No.: FQC/861).
6.2.4 Calibration Frequency: Two Years ± 10 Days.
6.3 Cleaning
6.3.1 After use clean the surface of the instrument using a soft brush.
6.3.2 Remove the collecting funnel assembly and clean it with a soft brash.
6.3.3 The glass baffles can also be cleaned by dismantling the baffle assembly.
6.3.4 Remove the Allen bolts provided on the backside of the baffle assembly.
6.3.5 Reassemble the baffle assembly.
