SOP for Operation and cleaning of Refractometer

1.0 OBJECTIVE
To set up a general guideline for the operation, cleaning and calibration of Refractometer.

2.0 SCOPE
This SOP is applicable for operation, cleaning and calibration of Refractometer (Eq. ID.: QC/156).

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Operating personnel is responsible for carrying out the procedure.
3.2 Overall responsibility for training, implementation & follow-up with the QC Manager or his nominee.

5.0 PRECAUTION
5.1 Sample temperature should be at room temperature
5.2 Total solid content should be properly dissolve in solution
5.3 Duster with rough surface should not be used in sample holder for cleaning.

6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Operation
6.1.1 Connect the instrument and printer to the mains.
6.1.2 Open the sample holder and clean the holder with soft tissue paper.
6.1.3 Place one drop of sample and close the sample holder
6.1.4 Sample will be automatically scanned
6.1.5 Click on print option
6.1.6 Write name of the product and press enter
6.1.7 Write batch no of the product and press enter
6.1.8 Data will be automatically printed.

6.2 Cleaning
6.2.1 During cleaning ensure that the chamber is cool.
6.2.2 Clean the chamber with purified water.
6.2.3 Wash with detergent once a week
6.2.4 Clean outer surface and all parts of instrument carefully once in a month.

6.3 Calibration
6.3.1 Open the sample holder and clean with soft tissue paper.
6.3.2 Place one drop of purified water and close the sample holder.
6.3.3 Set the sample temperature 20°C. Sample will be automatically scanned.
6.3.4 Click on print option
6.3.5 Write name of the product and press enter
6.3.6 Write batch no (If any) of the product and press enter
6.3.6 Data will be automatically printed.
6.3.7 Take three readings for three drop of samples.
6.3.8 Use refractometer calibration liquid (of two different RI values) and cargile Master standard solutions which have been supplied by refractometer equipment supplier and follow above sequence.
6.3.9 Input all data in the calibration report form as per Annexure-I.
6.3.10 Frequency : Six Months + 10 days.
