1.0 OBJECTIVE
To set up a procedure for operation, cleaning and calibration of Digital Torque Tester.
2.0 SCOPE
This SOP is applicable for the operation, cleaning and calibration of Digital Torque Tester at Quality control Department (Company name) of (Company name).
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Operating personnel is responsible for carrying out the procedure.
3.2 Overall responsibility for training, implementation & follow-up with the Head of QC or his/her nominee.
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY
4.1 Head of Quality.
5.0 PRECAUTIONS
5.1 Do not exceed unit’s capacity regardless if power is on or off.
5.2 A lock pin is provided on the clamping device of the Torque Tester. Please ensure that the clamp is locked while tightening the bottle & remove at the time of testing.
5.3 Accuracy may be affected if unit is exposed to high humidity, dust or extreme shock.
5.4 Do not disassemble unit. Disassembly voids warranty.
5.5 When operating or moving do not lift or twist the instrument table or carry by holding the knob.
5.6 During calibration do not drop the weight hanging in a line.
6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Fix the test sample in between the adjustable locating pegs.
6.2 Put ON the mains switch.
6.3 Ensure that the green (Left side of Normal/peak button) light is on. If red light on, press Normal/peak button until the green light is on.
6.4 Remove the LOCK PIN being placed at the circular plate before conducting the test.
6.5 Check the torque value at 40.0 lb/in2. Otherwise set the torque value as follows.
6.6 Adjust the value 40.0 lb/in2 by pressing ▲ or ▼ key.
6.7 Tighten the sample in the right direction to measure the clockwise torque and left direction for getting the anti-clockwise torque.
6.8 Press the reset button to make it zero on display. Now to take reading in clockwise rotate the cap of sample.
6.9 The value of torque is displayed on the digital display on the load monitor. Now to take reading in clockwise rotate the cap of sample.
6.10 Now press the reset button to make it zero on display again. For taking reading in Anti-clockwise direction, rotate the cap of sample in left direction.
6.11 The value of maximum torque is displayed on the load monitor and stored.
6.12 The value of anti-clock torque is displayed on the digital display.
6.13 Calibration
6.13.1 Set a calibration rod holder in between adjustable locating pegs. Now insert calibration rod into the center hole of the calibration rod holder and make it parallel to the adjusting screw.
6.13.2 Switch on. Press tare button if any reading show on the load window.
6.13.3 Hang known weights on the stand with the help of pulley and thread arrangement. Tie one end of the thread to the calibration rod and hang known weights on the other.
6.13.4 For the limit indication we can set the limit according to the requirement 0 to 100 lbs by pressing limit switch.
6.13.5 Then the known weights hanged on the calibration rod can be seen on the load monitor. The red display on the load monitor (LOAD display) indicates the load value.
6.13.6 If the load value shows on the load monitor is not exactly the same as hanged load, then calibrate it according to hanged weight by following manners.
6.13.7 Pressing LIMIT switch display ‘CAL’ on the right display and a value on the left display. If load monitor shows a value which is lower than the actual value then increase value by pressing LIMIT switch and ▲button simultaneously. Release LIMIT button and see load value. Do the same until the load value and actual value are exactly same.
6.13.8 If load monitor shows a value which is higher than the actual value then increase value by pressing LIMIT switch and ▼button simultaneously. Release LIMIT button and see load value. Do the same until the load value and actual value are exactly same.
6.13.9 Record all data on ‘Annexure I’.
6.13.10 Repeat the procedure for opposite side of the calibration rod.
6.13.11 After calibration takes reading for known load three times both side of the calibration rod and record it ‘Annexure I’ as verification.
6.13.12 Acceptance Criteria: Deviation in verification result should NMT ± 2 lb from applied load.
6.13.13 Calibration frequency: 6 months ± 10 days
6.14 Cleaning
6.14.1 Clean the dust which accumulated on surface of the tester with a piece of dry cloth.
6.15 Operation Log Book
6.15.1 Record the information in the operational log book- “OPERATION LOG BOOK OF DIGITAL TORQUE TESTER” as per FRM No.: FQC/571
