Objective : To set up a general guideline for the operation and cleaning of Hot Air Sterilizer.
Scope : This SOP is applicable for operation and cleaning of Hot Air Sterilizer.
Responsibility
> Operating personnel is responsible for carrying out the procedure.
> Overall responsibility for training, implementation & follow-up with the QC Manager or his nominee.
Accountability
> Head of Quality.
Precautions
> Ensure the door is properly closed while running the chamber.
> Do not keep the chamber in high temperature area.
> Do not keep the chamber near the back wall. At least 2 feet clear distance should be provided from all sides of the chamber.
> The knob position of the Safety Thermostat should be the same to that of set temperature.
Procedure
> > Operation
> Connect the instrument to the mains.
> Check the ventilation screw [on the middle of the right side wall of the sterilizer]. It must be closed.
> Place the equipment to be sterilized in the sterilizer. Close the door and neatly tighten the door of the sterilizer.
> Turn on the switch of the hot air sterilizer located on the upper part of the right hand side. Temperature controller display, the inside chamber motor and heater supply will be on automatically.
> The lower part of the temperature controller display will show the set temperature and upper part will show the actual inside temperature of the sterilizer.
> Set the temperature to 220°C by pressing increment key (▲) [to increase the temperature] or decrement key (▼) [to decrease the temperature].
> Move and fix the “Safety Thermostat” knob to the temperature same as that of the set temperature.
> Note the timing when the temperature reaches to the desired level. Wait at least1 hour for the sterilization process to complete.
> After completion of sterilization process switch off the sterilizer, allow to cool at room temperature. Collect the equipment from the sterilizer.
> Keep the record of operation and cleaning in specific Log Book. (Annexure-I)
> > Cleaning
> Clean the chamber from inside and outside after use.
> Clean outer surface and all parts of instrument carefully once in a week.
> Clean the shelves with detergent and purified water once in three months. Then wipe with a cloth soaked with disinfectant.
> Clean the PT-100 sensor tip with the help of a smooth polish paper every month.
