OBJECTIVE: To describe the procedure for checking the quality of Stainless Steel (SS).
SCOPE: This SOP is applicable for the checking the quality of Stainless Steel (SS) installed
RESPONSIBILITY:
1 The Maintenance Engineer shall be:
1.1 Responsible for procedure for the checking the quality of SS.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Head –Engineering Services
PROCEDURE:
1 All equipment, its accessories and parts are to check for the quality if claimed as SS by the supplier/manufacturer.
2 Testing of SS quality can be done by the testing kit available in engineering stores as follows:
2.1 Clean the surface and put a drop of test solution on the SS part to be checked for quality claimed as SS316 or SS304.
2.2 Switch on the electrolyte torch and touch the electrode with drop of solution.
2.3 After 20-30 seconds observe the change in color of the solution.
2.4 If the solution color changes to deep red, it indicates that the part is of SS316 quality.
2.5 If the solution color changes to black, it indicates that the part is of SS304.
2.6 Switch off the torch.
3 Verify the mentioned quality of the test part and if found any deviation with actual, reject the material.
