SOP for Pest and Rodent Control

Objective: To provide procedure for pest control program.

Scope: This procedure is applicable to entire factory premises and warehouse areas of (Company Name).

Responsibility
1. Representative of HR/EHS shall be responsible for execution of contract & monitoring the activity.
2. Representative of relevant Department shall be responsible to monitor the cleaning of insecticutors.
3. An external agency namely PEST GUARD has been appointed to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to control possible pest and rodent problems on contractual terms of one year.

Accountability : General Manager, HR

Precautions
5.1 Wear personal protective equipment before application.
5.2 Spraying shall not be done on or close to the water tanks, inside warehouse and production.
5.3 Inhalation and contact with the fogging solution must be avoided.
5.4 Unauthorized person shall not be allowed during pest control
5.5 Material and product shall not be dispatched during pest control.

Procedure
6.1 Equipment use for pest control
6.1.1 Fogger Machine
6.1.2 Spray Machine
6.1.3 Rodent glue mat & Rodent trap

6.2. Instruction
6.2.1 Pest control program shall be carried out by trained personnel of Pest Guard pest control as per Annexure– I. (Pest control programs describe Operation, Area, Brand names of pesticides, Active ingredients and Dilution ratio).
6.2.2 Fogging and spraying are to be carried out after every two month by the contractor as per pest control program using pesticides listed in the Annexure – I.
6.2.3 Insecticutors shall be cleaned once in a day. Insecticutors shall be switched on at all times except at the time of inspection and cleaning. The cleaning records should be maintained in Annexure – II.
6.2.4 Contract with Pest Guard shall be renewed before it expiry.
6.2.5 Contractor should provide Beximco with approved Change control document in case of any change of pesticides.
6.2.6 Contractors shall ensure that pest control program is carried by trained personnel & photograph of trained personnel with certificate to be forwarded to Beximco.

6.3 GENERAL
6.3.1 As per contract, Pest Guard pest control will send a letter to General Manager, HR informing the pest control service.
6.3.2 General Manager, HR shall then send copy of this letter to all concerned departments.
6.3.3 The concerned department shall take needful steps for covering of materials that are suspected to be exposed during pest control.
6.3.4 The concerned department shall inform the HR/EHS department if they have any problem on the schedule date.
6.3.5 HR/ EHS Department shall then inform to the provider to change their schedule if there is problem. Reschedule date should be within seven days of schedule date. Otherwise HR/EHS department shall inform the service provider to carry out their service.
6.3.6 Representatives of Pest Guard pest control shall report to gate house on schedule date and security supervisor will inform the HR/EHS Personnel regarding their arrival.
6.3.7 After checking the personnel and materials they shall be provided an ID cards to enter into the factory premises.
6.3.8 Factory EHS personnel shall ensure that trained operators of pest control (as per list provided earlier) perform the job.

6.4 Spraying and Fogging
6.4.1 Take Pest Guard personnel behind the gatehouse 02 for preparing the solution as per Annexure – I.
6.4.2 HR/EHS Personnel shall monitor the preparation of solution and record in logbook.
6.4.3 The fogging machine is used Fyfanon and Kerosene to emit fog and the spraying machine is used Sumithion and water to spread inside the drain/pit and another spraying machine is used Icon and water to spread into the scrap yards, shrubs, etc. The treatment is carried out at all possible sites/areas out side the premises as per approved site lay out plan which are likely to provide shelter to the insects (Viz. Scrap yards, trees, shrubs, drain lines etc.).
6.4.4 HR/EHS Personnel shall supervise the whole activity as per approved site lay out plan (attached) and the attached plans should have marked areas where pest control activities will be carried out.
6.4.5 After completion of pest control activity, the service provider shall fill up the document and take the comments from HR personnel.
6.4.6 A record and report shall be maintained for pest control activity carried out by the contractor in Annexure- III.
6.4.7 Once in every month, the concerned department shall send the efficacy of pest control as per Annexure IV.
6.4.8 Review the feedback and assess the efficacy of pest control.
6.4.9 If any complain comes from concerned department regarding the pests, HR/EHS department shall inform the service provider to take necessary actions such as change the frequency of operation or change the pesticides.

6.5 Rodent Control
6.5.1 Rodent glue mat in the warehouse shall be put as per approved drawing.
6.5.2 Rodent trap shall be placed near to the entrance of warehouse and production building.
6.5.3 Rodent glue mat and rodent trap shall be checked every day in each location as per Annexure V and be logged in a register. If found any rodent on the glue mat or in the trap, it shall be recorded and buried into the soil.
6.5.4 Every two month the Rodent glue mat/trap shall be inspected by the representative of Pest Guard pest control for the trapped rodent and changed the glue mat.
6.5.5 A record shall be maintained of the every two-month inspection carried out and the trapped rodents are buried into the soil as per Annexure- III.

6.6 Insecticutors
6.6.1 Insecticutors have been installed at the entry points of Production, Warehouse and in other areas to prevent possible entry of flies and insects into the premises.
6.6.2 Switch off the Insecticutor and remove dead files/ insects daily from the insecticutor tray and the mesh using nylon brush and scoop. Maintain the record of number of dead insects found as per Annexure-II.
6.6.3 Clean the tray with clean wet duster.
6.6.4 Switch on the Insecticutor after cleaning.
