SOP for Operating, Cleaning & Maintenance Procedure of Ultrasonic Cleaner

Objective: To provide an operating, cleaning and maintenance procedure for Ultrasonic Cleaner.

Scope: This SOP shall be applicable for QC (Chemical Lab.) and QA personnel using the Ultrasonic Cleaner.

Responsibility
1. All QC and QA personnel shall be responsible for implementation of the procedure.
2. Manager, Quality or his or her Designee shall be accountable for training and implementation of the procedure.

Precautions
1 It is faster and more efficient to run several small loads, so reduce the load size.
2 Use a perforated tray to support heavy items because excessive weight on the tank bottom dampens sound energy and may cause damage to the transducer.
3 Always use a tray or beaker to hold parts, or suspend items.
4 Never use corrosive solutions.
5 Never allow the liquid level to drop one inch (25mm) from top of the tank.
6 Never use a solution hotter than 70°C.
7 Do not operate the cleaner in a dusty area.

Procedure
1 EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION
Name : Ultrasonic Cleaner
Model : B1200E-1
Manufacturer : BRANSON, USA

2 OPERATING STEPS
2.1 Direct Method
Fill the tank with warm water for injections (The liquid should come to within one inch from the top of the tank when the tray and items to be cleaned are submerged).

Add the cleaning solution (detergents, soaps) to the water for injections.

Plug the unit into its power source and press POWER to ON. Let the unit run for five to ten minutes to allow the liquid to degas.

Place the item to be cleaned into a perforated tray and lower the tray into the tank.

When the item is clean, remove the tray from the tank.

Rinse the clean item with clean water for injections and dry them, if necessary.

Turn the cleaner OFF after use.

2.2 Indirect Method
Fill the tank with warm water for injections (The liquid should come to within one inch from the top of the tank when the beaker is submerged).

Plug the unit into its power source and press POWER to ON. Let the unit run for five to ten minutes to allow the liquid to degas.

Place the item to be cleaned into individual beaker.

Pour enough cleaning solution (detergents, soaps) into the beaker to cover the item to be cleaned.

Place the beaker into the tank.

When the item is clean, remove the beaker from the tank.

Rinse the clean item with clean water for injections and dry them, if necessary.

Turn the cleaner OFF after use.

3 CLEANING
3.1 To clean the unit, unplug it, rinse the tank with clean, warm water for injections, and dry it.
3.2 Clean the tank frequently and change the cleaning solution regularly.

4 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
Tank Maintenance – Tank seldom requires hand cleaning. When particulate matter from a saturated solution is deposited on the tank bottom use a nonabrasive cloth and water to clean the tank.

5 RECORD KEEPING
Record of operation, cleaning and maintenance shall be kept in specific Equipment Log Book.
