1.0 OBJECTIVE : To lay down a procedure for the cleaning, sanitization and housekeeping of Microbiological Laboratory area.
2.0 SCOPE : This SOP is applicable for Microbiological Laboratory of Quality Control Department of (Company Name).
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Each individual in the laboratory is responsible for carrying out the procedure.
3.2 Overall responsibility for training, implementation & follow-up with the QC Manager or his nominee.
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY
4.1 Head of Quality.
5.0 PRECAUTIONS
5.1 To avoid direct contacts of disinfectants to eyes and skin, wear goggles and hand gloves.
5.2 To avoid inhalation of disinfectants, wear mask covering nose and mouth.
5.3 To avoid ingestion, hands should be washed thoroughly after handling of the disinfectants.
5.4 Ensure the differential pressures between the rooms are always within the limits by monitoring twice daily and giving in Annexure-I.
5.5 Avoid storage of diluted disinfectants, use freshly diluted solutions.
5.6 Keep the containers tightly closed after use.
5.7 Keep the cleaning agent and disinfectant at the designated place only.
5.8 Keep the diluted disinfectants in the sterilized containers only.
5.9 Use disinfectants in rotation.
6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Cleaning of wall and ceiling
6.1.1 Enter to the Microbiology laboratory as per SOP: Entry and exit procedure for Microbiological laboratory (SOP No.: QC103).
6.1.2 Mop the walls and ceiling with disinfectant solution (2.5 % of the Dettol or Savlon).
6.1.3 Clean the door and windows with glass cleaner solution.
6.1.4 Clean the outer surface of the air inlet grill and risers with cloth moistened with disinfectant solution (2.5 % of the Dettol or Savlon).
6.1.5 Clean the most critical area first and least at the last.
6.1.6 Cleaning and sanitization frequency: once in a week.
6.1.7 Use disinfectant solutions (Dettol and Savlon) in rotation on weekly basis.
6.2 Cleaning of Air inlet and return grills and risers
6.2.1 Remove the grill screw and grill frames
6.2.2 Clean the coarse filter with vacuum cleaner.
6.2.3 Wipe the inner portion of the duct and the grills with cloth moistened with disinfectant solution (2.5 % of the Dettol or Savlon)
6.2.4 Cleaning frequency: Once in three months.
6.3 Cleaning of floor
6.3.1 Vacuum cleans the floor, corner of the room, selves and rack.
6.3.2 Mop the floor with different moping sponge using disinfectants solution (2.5 % of the Dettol or Savlon). Clean the floor twice a day (In the morning and at the end of the day)
6.3.3 Wipe the selves and rack with cloth moistened with disinfectants solution (2.5 % of the Dettol or Savlon). Clean the selves and rack at weekly frequency.
6.3.4 Use disinfectant solutions (Dettol and Savlon) in rotation on weekly basis.
6.4 Personnel hygiene and house keeping
6.4.1 Before starting the work on the laminar air Flow workstation rinse the hand gloves with 70% IPA solution.
6.4.2 After finishing the work rinse the hands gloves again with 70% IPA solution and finally wash the hand with liquid soap.
6.4.3 Keep the microbiology lab always in clean & tidy condition.
6.4.4 Arrange and keep the accessories used in microbiology lab in designated places with properly labeling.
6.4.5 Keep the microbiological media and other reagents in the media store room in the designated shelves.
6.4.6 Label each drawer inside the microbiology lab properly mentioning the contents inside.
6.5 Preparation of disinfectant solutions
6.5.1 Add 500 ml of Savlon or Dettol in a bucket and put 19.5 L of purified water and mix the solution properly to prepare a 2.5% disinfectant solution.
6.5.2 To prepare the 70% IPA solution, take 350 ml of commercial grade IPA and make the volume 500 ml with purified water in a 500-ml measuring cylinder.
6.5.3 Based on the report of the validation of disinfectant solution, if necessary, changes in the concentration of the disinfectant solutions shall be done and incorporated in the next revision of SOP.
