RPM Calibration

Objective: To establish a standard procedure for calibration of rpm.

Scope: This procedure is applicable for rpm calibration with digital Tachometer (photo/contact) for all rotating parts/equipments installed in (Company Name).

Responsibility: Engineering Officer shall be responsible to follow the procedure strictly.

Accountibility: Head of Engineering.

Precaution:
=> Concerned personnel should be trained on the SOP.
=> Frequency of Calibration should be checked before starting calibration.
=> Proper documentation should be carried out.

Procedure:
=> Check the Calibration Master Plan (FRM NO.: FQA/041-01) for the schedule of calibration.
=> Check the Calibration certificate of the standard digital Tachometer. It should be within valid date.
=> RPM calibration may be carried out either by photo option or contact option of the digital Tachometer.
=> Carry out the following procedure for calibration with Photo option of the Tachometer:
=> Fix a white sticker on the surface of the rotating part.
=> Start rotation of the equipment under calibration and wait till the rotation is stable.
=> Hold the Tachometer in direction of the white sticker and Press START button for emission of light.
=> Carry out the following procedure for calibration with Contact option of the Tachometer:
=> Hold the Tachometer in contact with the surface of the rotating part.
=> Start rotation of the equipment under calibration and wait till the rotation is stable.
=> Press START button.
=> Take the rpm reading from the Tachometer.
=> Set different rpm at the machine under calibration and take readings from the Tachometer. Take at least ten readings.
=> Compile the data at Instrument Calibration Certificate (FRM No.: FEG/027-01).
=> The acceptance limit is ±5%.
=> If the rpm of the equipment is out of specified range, rectify the problem and recalibrate.
=> Frequency of calibration shall be followed as per Calibration Master List (FRM No.: FQA/040-01).
=> After completion of calibration, fix the Calibration label sticker (FRM No.: FQA/053-00) on the equipment under calibration.
=> During this process the Engineering & QA representatives shall be present to check the procedure.
