Objective: To establish a standard procedure for operation of Boiler.
Scope: This procedure is applicable for the operation of Boilers (Brand: Cleaver Brookes) of (Company Name).
Responsibility
1. Operator shall be responsible to follow the procedure strictly.
2. Supervisor shall be responsible for ensuring that the SOP is followed properly.
Accountability: Head of Engineering.
Precautions
1. Concerned operators should have sufficient knowledge about the operating procedure.
2. Only trained persons should be involved in the operation of Boiler.
3. Proper documentation should be carried out.
Procd
6.1 Before starting:
6.1.1 Select the Boiler and switch ON the power for main panel.
6.1.2 Check the water level in feed water tank.
6.1.3 Open feed valve of water softener.
6.1.4 Open the inlet and outlet valves of the feed water pump.
6.1.5 Open the feed check valve.
6.1.6 Open the air valve.
6.1.7 Close the main outlet valve.
6.1.8 Check the water level in the boiler at gauge glass test.
6.1.9 Check the gas pressure. It should be between 8-10 psi.
6.1.10 Check the power supply (3-phase, 415V, AC).
6.2 Starting procedure:
6.2.1 Open the gas valve.
6.2.2 Switch ON the power supply.
6.2.3 Switch ON the burner switch.
6.2.4 Watch the ignition through the ignition indicating lamp.
6.2.5 Watch the successful start of the feed water pump.
6.2.6 Close the air valve after emergence of steam.
6.2.7 Open the main stop valve as the steam pressure rises up to operating level i.e. 100 psi.
6.2.8 Open the steam header valve to allow steam to head for feeders and also open valves of other desired outlets.
6.3 During operation:
6.3.1 Check and record Feed water temperature at one hour interval. It should be between 80º – 90ºC.
6.3.2 Check cut-off switches of high and low water level.
6.3.3 Check self-stoppage of boiler at set pressure of 150 psi.
6.3.4 Check self start at set pressure of 100 psi.
6.3.5 Blow down the boiler four times a day.
6.3.6 Check and record inlet gas pressure at every one hour interval. It should be between 5-8 psi.
6.3.7 Check the steam pressure. It should be between 100-150 psi.
6.3.8 Check and record feed water pressure at every one hour interval. It should be between 8-10 kg/cm2
6.4 Shutdown procedure:
6.4.1 Turn OFF the burner at low firing stage.
6.4.2 Close the gas line.
6.4.3 Close down the supply valves one by one.
6.4.4 Blow down the boiler for at least 20 seconds.
6.4.5 Shut off the main stop valve.
6.4.6 Close the feed check valve.
6.4.7 Close down the inlet and outlet valves of the feed water pump.
6.4.8 Switch OFF the power supply.
6.5 Record the parameters mentioned in ANNEXURE – I.
