Hazardous Chemical Management

There is no one answer to this question since each laboratory will have different requirements and limitations for handling hazardous chemicals. However, a basic hazardous chemical management plan (HCP) should include the following elements:

=>> Identification of all hazardous chemicals used in the laboratory.

=>> Description of the lab’s hazardous waste facility and process.

=>> Description of safety procedures for handling and using these chemicals.

=>> Inventory of all hazardous chemicals in the lab at regular intervals.

=>> Procedures for cleaning and decontaminating laboratory equipment that has come into contact with a hazardous chemical.

=>> Procedures for the safe disposal of any unused or expired hazardous chemicals.
