Tablets

Tablets are solid dosage pharmaceutical preparations containing drug ingredients usually formulated with suitable pharmaceutical excipients. They can vary in size, shape, weight, hardness, thickness, isolation, and dissolution properties and other aspects, depending on their intended use and manufacturing method.

It has been estimated that solid-dosage forms constitute approximately 90% of all dosage forms used clinically to provide systemic administration of therapeutic agents. Widespread use of tablets has been achieved as a result of their convenience and variety of tablet types.

Tablets are primarily prepared by compression of granules or powder mixtures, with a limited number of moldings. Most tablets are used for oral administration of drugs. Many of these are prepared with a variety of colors and coatings. Other tablets, such as sublingual, buccal, or vaginal tablets, are formulated with properties most applicable to their particular route of administration.
