1.0 OBJECTIVE : To lay down the general procedure for cleaning of solvent and chemical spillage that happened during the work in laboratory to minimize risks hazards and ensures personal safety.
2.0 SCOPE : This SOP is applicable for Quality Control Department of (Company Name) for cleaning of spillage chemicals over open space.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Each individual in the laboratory is responsible for carrying out the procedure.
3.2 Overall responsibility for training, implementation & follow-up with the QC Manager or his/her nominee.

5.0 PRECAUTIONS
5.1 Keep all types of spillage out of contact or inhalation.
5.2 Wear personal protective equipments.
5.3 Use proper cleaning tools (cloth, foam, and mug) to remove the spillage.
5.4 Wash open parts of the body with plenty of water after cleaning of spillage.
6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Spillage may happened during the usage of solvent, preparation of sample for analysis, transfer of chemicals from original container, breakage of glass container etc.
6.2 Don’t be panic when spillage occurred. First realize the nature of spillage and take preventive measures as required.
6.3 Soaked and wipe out the dilute non irritant spillage with foam or cloth, rinse with plenty of water. For concentrate acid or base, pour water over spillage to make it less reactive, soak up it from the surface and rinse to the sink.
6.4 Collect the solid spillage from the surface, dissolve and dispose with plenty of water.
6.5 Evacuate the area in case of volatile poisonous spillage and exhaust the area as quickly as possible.
