1.0 OBJECTIVE : To provide a written procedure for the preparation of 70% Isopropyl alcohol .
2.0 SCOPE : This procedure is applicable for the preparation of 70% Isopropyl alcohol used as disinfectant in (Company Name).
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Microbiologist/ QC officer shall be responsible to carry out the activity as per procedure.
3.2 Manager QC or his nominee shall be overall responsible for implementation.
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY
4.1 Head of Quality.
5.0 PRECAUTIONS
5.1 During handling of Isopropyl alcohol, read carefully the instructions given on the container label or MSDS.
5.2 Avoid inhalation of the vapors.
6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Preparation of the 70%Isopropyl alcohol
6.1.1 Take a cleaned glass container and rinse it thoroughly with purified water. Sterilize the container in autoclave.
6.1.2 Mix required quantity of Isopropyl alcohol and purified water in the ratio of 70:30 (IPA : purified water) using a measuring cylinder in the container and shake manually for 1 to 2 minutes for through mixing.
6.1.3 Filter the prepared 70% IPA with 0.45um membrane filter.
6.1.4 Keep the prepared 70% IPA mixer in the container by tightly closing the lid to prevent evaporation as well as possible contamination.
6.1.5 Label the container with name of the content, date of preparation, use before date, prepared by, etc.
6.1.6 The date of expiry (use before) should not be more than 15 days from the date of preparation of the disinfectant.
6.1.7 Store the 70% Isopropyl alcohol away from heat and direct light. Always keep the lid of the container tightly closed.
6.1.8 For routine use transfer the required quantity from the stock container to wash bottle /spray container and IPA dispenser and keep the stock container well closed. It should be ensured that the transfer of required quantity of IPA to the respective user is done on the same day of filtration.
6.1.9 After transferring 70% IPA in wash bottle /spray container /IPA dispenser used them properly as mentioned in point 6.1.5
6.1.10 All activities from preparation to transferring for routine use must be done under the L.A.F. bench of Microbiology department.
6.1.11 Record the details in the log register in Annexure-I.
