SOP for Operation of Air Compressor System

Objective: To establish a standard procedure for operation of Air Compressor and Air Dryer.

Scope: This procedure is applicable for Air Compressors (Atlas Copco, Model: ZT 75 & ZT 50 VSD) and Air Dryers (Atlas Copco, Model: CD 230) installed in Utility Building, (Company Name).

Responsibility:
1 Operator shall be responsible for safe and proper operation of Air Compressor and Air Dryer as per procedure.
2 Supervisor shall be responsible to ensure that the SOP is followed properly.

Precautions
1 Concerned personnel should be trained on the SOP.
2 Air Compressor room must be kept clean.
3 Louver filters of the room must be in clean condition.

Procedure
1 Carry out the following pre checks before starting the Air Compressor & the Air Dryer:
1.1 Open the door of the Air Compressor and carry out the following works:
1.1.1 Check the oil level, which must be in the middle of sight-glass (SG). Top up, if necessary, with Atlas Copco Roto-Z oil.
1.1.2 Clean the inner surface of the compressor with a clean dry cloth.
1.2 Close the door of the Air Compressor.
1.3 Clean the outer surface of the Air Dryer with a clean dry cloth.
2 To start the Air Compressor, carry out the following steps sequentially:
2.1 Switch on the power supply for Air Compressor and check the Voltage from the Distribution board (DB).
2.2 Check the presence of power from LED on the operating panel of Air Compressor.
2.3 Open the air delivery valve of the Air Compressor.
2.4 Press start button (1) of the Air Compressor. LED light will be on and Air Compressor starts running.
3 To start the Air Dryer, carry out the following steps sequentially:
3.1 Check that the intake and delivery valves of the Air Dryer are in open position. If not, open the valves.
3.2 Switch on the power supply for the Air Dryer from the DB.
3.3 Press start button (1) of the Air Dryer. LED light will be on and Air Dryer starts running.
4 During Operation:
4.1 For Air Compressor ZT 50 VSD, record the parameters in log book as per ANNEXURE- I at every 2 hour interval.
4.2 For Air Compressor ZT 75, record the parameters in log book as per ANNEXURE- II at every 2 hour interval.
4.3 Check the Condensate discharge status of the receiver tank. Record on log book (applicable for both Air Compressors) on every 2 hour interval.
4.4 Check function of the Air Dryer from the pressure gauge. Record in log book (applicable for both Air Compressors) at every 2 hour interval.
5 To stop the Air Compressor, carry out the following steps:
5.1 Switch off the Air Compressor by pressing the stop button (0) and check that LED light is off.
5.1 Close the delivery valve of the compressor.
5.2 Switch off the power supply of the Compressor from the distribution board.
5.3 To stop the compressor immediately, press emergency stop button (if necessary).
6 To stop the Air Dryer following steps are to be followed sequentially.
6.1 Switch off the Air Dryer by pressing the stop button (0) and check that LED light is off.
