1.0 OBJECTIVE
To provide the guidelines on First Aid.
2.0 SCOPE
This procedure is applicable for all departments in (Company Name).
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Representative of EHS/HR department shall be responsible to arrange for first aid as and when required.
3.2 User department & EHS department shall be responsible for updation of first aid box.
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY
4.1 Manager EHS/General Manager HR, Factory
5.0 PREACAUTIONS
5.1 Wash your hand before use any first aid items.
6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 First Aid Box
6.1.1 Always keep first aid box with required quantities of desired medicines and related items mentioned below.
6.1.1.1 Sterilised cotton
6.1.1.2 Surgical gauze
6.1.1.3 Roller bandage
6.1.1.4 Scissors
6.1.1.5 Antibiotic powder
6.1.1.6 Dettol / Savlon
6.1.1.7 Antiseptic cream
6.1.1.8 Adhesive plaster
6.1.1.9 Adhesive bandage
6.2 Display the list of items on the box.
6.3 Location of first aid boxes is given in Annexure – I.
6.4 Keep one box in each department at position easily accessible.
6.5 Check the contents monthly and replace the exhausted stock and record the details in checklist of First Aid items (Annexure – II).
6.6 For Minor Cuts and Wounds
6.6.1 Take the injured person to out side the working area/production area for first aid treatment immediately.
6.6.2 After the first aid treatment if necessary take the injured person to the hospital immediately for further treatment accompanied by HR/EHS employee for taking his care.
6.7 For Burns
6.7.1 Never use iodine, cotton, oil or greasy ointment.
6.7.2 Take the person to out side the working area/production area immediately for the first aid treatment and cover the burn portion with sterile dry dressing.
6.7.3 For severe burns, take the patient to the doctor for further treatment immediately.
6.8. For Broken Bones (Fracture)
6.8.1 Take the injured person to out side the working area/production area for first aid treatment.
6.8.2 Allow the victim to sit in a posture comfortable for him.
6.8.3 Take the victim to the doctor immediately for further treatment.
6.8.4 Tie the cotton bandage to the broken portion of the body to the extent comfortable to the victim.
6.8.5 Shift the victim to the hospital for further treatment.
6.8.6 Do not try to push protruding bones into place. Call for a doctor urgently or shift the injured person to the hospital.
6.9 Poisoning
6.9.1 Immediately wash mouth and throat with plenty of water, if consumed by mouth and call for a doctor or shift the person to the clinic/ hospital.
6.9.2 If vomiting occurs, give water to drink to assist dilution.
6.9.3 Take the victim to the Doctor immediately and show the label/sample of the poison to Doctor.
6.10 Electric Shock
6.10.1 Switch off the main switch.
6.10.2 If the conditions necessitate, take the injured person to the hospital immediately.
6.10.3 Do not touch victim of electric shock until contact with the source of current is disconnected.
6.11 Eye Injuries
6.11.1 Do not rub or touch eyes.
6.11.2 Cover both eyes with clean gauze/bandage and rush the victim to doctor.
