Smoke test procedures for HVAC and booths

Objective: To establish a standard procedure for smoke test of HVAC system and dispensing/ sampling/ LAF Booths.

Scope: This SOP is applicable for smoke test of HVAC system and dispensing/ sampling/ LAF Booths of (Company Name).

Responsibility: Engineering Officer/ Sr. Engineering Officer shall be responsible to ensure that the SOP is followed properly.

Accountability: Head of Engineering.

Precautions:
> Concerned personnel should be trained on the SOP.
> Check condition of smoke test apparatus before starting the smoke test.

Procedure:
> For Clean rooms (HVAC System):
> Fill up the Aerosol Generator with ONDINA Oil.
> Arrange power supply (230V) & inert gas to generate smoke through Aerosol Generator.
> Generate smoke by the Aerosol Generator.
> Arrange video recording of the flow pattern of smoke through multimedia department of BPL.
> Make sure the HVAC system is in running condition.
> Start the Aerosol Generator and flow the smoke towards supply (Terminal) HEPA filter of the particular room.
> Start the video recording during flow of smoke towards the Terminal HEPA filter.
> Slowly flow the smoke downwards.
> Flow the smoke towards the return riser of the particular clean room.
> Conduct video recording of the entire operation.
> Note that flow pattern in Form no.: FEG/050-00. Attach the video copy with the report.
> Frequency of Air flow pattern test is 2 years.
> For Dispensing/ Sampling/ LAF Booths:
> Use hand pump and smoke pencil to generate smoke.
> Arrange video recording of the operation.
> Open two sides of the smoke pencils by breaking the glass cover. Set the hand pump in one side of the pencil.
> Generate smoke with hand pump just below the supply HEPA filters
> Start the video recording after generating the smoke
> Slowly flow the smoke downwards of the booth.
> Generate smoke just in front of the air inlet of the booth.
> Note the flow pattern in the Form No.: FEG/050-00. Attach the video copy with the report.
> Frequency of Air flow pattern test is 2 years.
